Kia has previewed a fresh new concept ahead of next month's Detroit Auto Show, possibly previewing a new platform mate for Hyundai's next Genesis Coupe.

Pictured from above, the shadowy teaser hints at a curvaceous coupe design finished in a golden huge.

The concept features traditional coupe proportions, with a long bonnet and a back-set cabin, dominated by a wrap-around glasshouse.

Kia has revealed little else about the concept, although it has confirmed a 2+2 seating arrangement in the cabin.

The carmaker says its new concept will deliver "head-turning looks whilst providing superb driving enjoyment whether on the road or at the track”.

The new Detroit-bound concept was designed and built at Kia's design centre in Irvine, California, where Kia's popular Sportage SUV was also conceived.

While the concept appears to be a two-door model, it is also possible that this new showcar will preview a production version of the popular GT four-door coupe, revealed in 2011.

Reports suggest the GT will make a production debut in 2016, although it is unclear if it will retain its current styling or preview a new design language

Kia's last Detroit unveiling was the KV7 concept in 2011, which has long been expected to preview the next-generation Grand Carnival people-mover.

Recent spy photos add credence to these reports, hinting at a new family wagon with styling inspired by the big concept.
