The countdown to the launch of Kia’s new rear-wheel drive GT sedan has begun.
“There is a new paradigm of performance on the horizon”, “heart pounding performance”, “head-turning design”, “sleek sophistication,” the Korean giant says.
And that countdown naturally has an on-line starting point with Kia launching its own minisite, featuring a timer to the new model's Detroit Auto Show debut and a collection of frantic footage shot at - where else - the Nurburgring circuit in Germany.
But don’t get too excited just yet - the first episode doesn’t actually show the car, short of a few glances at its front wheel and instrument cluster. We’ll have to wait until the 8th January to see more.
For those that are too impatient to wait for the official reveal, a leaked image from the factory floor that appeared earlier this week gives a telling first look at the new Kia sedan, which is set to share its underpinnings with the Genesis G70.
Full details will form part of the lead-up campaign over the next month, but already a choice of four-cylinder or V6 turbo engines are tipped, linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission, borrowing from Hyundai-Kia's existing component catalog, but the BMW 3 Series-sized sedan represents a new market segment for Kia.
