Kia's new Rio five-door hatch is set for a surfing safari at next month's SEMA show in Las Vegas. It won't be the most powerful concept on display, but it will at least look the part.

Teaming up with street-culture magazine Antenna, Kia has whipped up a surf-themed take on its new light hatch. There's only the one teaser image for now, but the approach is clear: while others at the show pursue power, this Rio is all about lifestyle.

Kia says the flavour of this concept is a retro look at the classic surfing getaway, with the essentials crammed into the rear cargo space (we assume the rear seats have been laid flat).

The team has also made room inside for an old 80s gaming console (Atari? Nintendo?), along with shelving for shoes and sandals.

On the outside, the whole thing has4 been finished in a "sunset metallic" golden brown, and dropped on a set of low-offset gold-finished wheels.

At the rear, there's a custom diffuser and two (bigger than strictly necessary) centre-mounted exhaust tips.

There's more to come: Kia says this is just one of six sports-themed concepts destined for SEMA. Watch this space.
