Kia Reveals Four-door Coupe Concept Ahead Of Frankfurt Debut

It was always only a matter of time before Kia moved to capitalise on the rear-wheel-drive platform underpinning Hyundai's Genesis Coupe and Sedan models. And now, here it is: Kia's long-rumoured coupe... with an extra pair of doors.

Technical details for the as-yet-unnamed four-door coupe concept are thin on the ground. For now, Kia has said only that it sends V8 power to the rear wheels, and that more will be revealed in Frankfurt next month.

With a V8 heart confirmed, it is safe to assume that Hyundai-Kia's Tau engine, available in 287kW 4.6 litre form, and 320kW 5.0 litre form. For now, the engine is featured in only two cars: the Hyundai Genesis Sedan, and the flagship Hyundai Equus sedan.

"No matter from which perspective you look at it – this concept car is roaring with energy and ready for take-off. I believe the car is a strong statement from Kia: we are ready to fast forward to an all new chapter," Kia design boss Peter Schreyer said.

Kia has yet to confirm production plans for the concept, but with a door design and roofline that calls the current Optima sedan to mind, it is clear that the Korean carmaker is previewing some elements of its future styling language.

Up front, the concept wears Schreyer's familiar 'tiger nose' grille design, flanked by swept-back headlights that draw on the look of the Korean-market Cadenza large sedan.

Interior shots have not been revealed, but a look through the windows reveals hints of tan leather and a bold instrument cluster in the dash.

Little else is known for now, but with a Frankfurt debut now less than a month away, all will be revealed soon.
