Five years ago, we wrote of the Frankfurt Motor Show unveiling of the Pro Cee'd, the three-door version of Kia's Cee'd econobox commuter.

It was nothing special then, but along with the rest of the Cee'd line-up, the sharpened three-door put the Kia brand on the map - the map of Europe, that is.

Now, a second teaser sketch for the next-generation Pro_Cee'd has surfaced online, offering a new perspective on the sporty new model.

Arriving on the heels of the new Cee'd five-door and wagon unveilings at the Geneva Motor Show, the illustrated hatch flaunts a deep character line along its profile, and wider guards hugging massive five-spoke wheels.

We shouldn't expect to see the new Pro_Cee'd rolling around on 30-inch hoops, but it is clear that with this car, Kia plans to deliver its sportiest hatch yet.

And, if reports of a 152kW turbocharged i30 are to be believed, Hyundai might not be the only Korean that Volkswagen's Golf GTI will have breathing down its neck.

As with the regular Cee'd models, the Pro_Cee'd is a strictly European-market offering, making it a no-show for Australia.

What can we look forward to in Kia's small-car catalogue? A replacement for the Cerato, Kia's second-best selling model in Australia after the Rio.

With an early 2013 local debut on the cards, the new Cerato is likely to follow the same formula as the current model: four-door sedan and five-door hatch, and possibly another two-door Koup variant.
