Is Kia looking to break some sort of record for the sheer number of concepts one carmaker has rolled out in a decade?
We don't mind, of course. From the lary 2007 Kee coupe to the sleek GT, the muscular Provo, the bold Cross GT and even the oddly categorised CUB 'four-door coupe', Kia's concepts rarely fail to impress.
Next month, Kia will take another swing in the showcar showdown, unveiling a new small concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Kia has dropped a shadowy pair of teaser images today, hinting at an evolution of its current styling. The familiar 'tiger nose' grille sits above the Pro_Ceed's big fog lights, and big headlights sweep back along the front guards.
The cabin highlights the usual futuristic look we've come to expect from concepts, although there's a hint of production inspiration with the Rio hatch's toggle switches nested in the centre of the dash.
The company hasn't revealed what market this concept is designed to appeal to, but figuring it out is no great challenge.
So far, Kia has confirmed the concept is a 'B-Segment' offering, which makes it a compact car.
The press release says the car will "accept any challenge the assured modern motorist may throw at it," embodying a "mischievous character and a clearly robust bodyshape."
Add in the cabin's grab-rails that reach between the centre console and the dash, and it's clear we're looking at some sort of small SUV or crossover.
Such a model isn't hard to imagine, either: Kia and partner Hyundai are already believed to be considering rivals for Nissan's Juke crossover, and this "dramatic new concept" could be a preview of things to come.
For now, Kia says there are no specific plans for production, although it plans to use the coming Frankfurt unveiling to gauge interest among potential buyers.
