Jeremy Clarkson: Top Gear Dismissal ‘My Own Fault’

Jeremey Clarkson has declared that his dismissal from TV juggernaut Top Gear was "my own silly fault”.

In the TV star’s first interview since it was revealed he would no longer front the top-rating show again, Clarkson expressed sadness that the 12-year stint of Top Gear’s second incarnation had come to an end.

The BBC announced earlier this year that it would not renew Clarkson’s contract after a physical altercation with a producer on the show. 

"[Top Gear] was very much my baby, I absolutely adored it,” Clarkson said. “I worked all the time on it, all through the night and paid attention to every tiny bit."

"And then suddenly you are not asked to do that anymore, you do feel there is a big hole which does need to be filled."

Clarkson said he was equally saddened by his departure from Top Gear and being sidelined by the BBC after 27 years, saying the broadcaster had some “dreadful people” but also some “really talented, brilliant people”, declaring “I will never complain about [the BBC]”.

When questioned on a potential future car-related show for television, Clarkson joked that he and former co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May were working on a “flower show”, before admitting he had no idea what the future would hold for the trio.
