Fiat Chrysler has taken an axe to Jeep Renegade pricing for 2016, with price cuts across the range, from $1500 to $2500 depending on the model.

Customers who purchased a Renegade prior to the price reductions won’t miss out either, with a cash-back card equivalent to the price reduction being offered to existing owners.

That means buyers of the the entry-level Sport will save $1500 with the 1.6 litre five-speed manual manual dropping from $29,500 to $28,000, while the 1.4 litre MultiAir six-speed DCT automatic goes from $32,500 to $31,000.

As an added limited bonus, a drive-away pricing offer of $29,000 for the Sport manual and $33,000 for the Sport automatic is also available.

The automatic-only mid-range Longitude is also reduced by $1500, from $34,500 to $33,000 while the up-spec Limited sees a $2500 price reduction going from $38,500 to $36,000.

The range-topping off-road capable Trailhawk variant, powered by a 2.4 litre engine coupled to a nine-speed automatic also gets a $1500 trim. Previously a $41,500 proposition, the Trailhawk is now $40,000 plus on road costs.

The price cuts come just weeks after Fiat Chrysler’s local launch of the Fiat 500X range. Fiat’s new compact SUV shares its platform and some of its mechanicals with the Renegade, but is marketed as a more style-focussed urban dweller.

Changes to Renegade pricing now see the Sport manual match the $28,000 starting point of the 500X Pop manual, however the turbocharged 1.4 engine of the 500X outguns the Sport manual’s naturally aspirated 81kw 1.6 four-cylinder.

At the top of the range the 500X Cross Plus sneaks in $1000 less than the Renegade Trailhawk. Both offer a nine-speed automatic and all-wheel-drive, but the Fiat is powered by a 125kW 1.4 litre turbo engine compared to the 128kW naturally aspirated 2.4 litre Jeep.

Across the Renegade range specifications remain otherwise unchanged, check out the full details here.
