Jeep is recalling its Grand Cherokee SUV, due to a potential problem with the front brake calipers.

The carmaker has identified a problem with the caliper on the front left wheel, which may have been cast with an incorrect material during the manufacturing process.

If the driver needs to apply the brakes with extreme force while driving, the housing could rupture. This, in turn, could reduce the front braking capacity for the vehicle, creating a hazard for the vehicle occupants and other road users.

A total of 27 Grand Cherokees are targeted in the recall, and all were built for the 2015 and 2016 model-years.

The Grand Cherokee is also part of a Fiat Chrysler Automobiles recall of more than 1.1 million cars worldwide with automatic transmissions due to a design quirk in the way the shifter operates. Australian details for this recall are yet to be formally announced.

Jeep will attempt to contact affected owners shortly, but any owner wishing to learn more about the latest round of recalls should contact their local dealer.
