The Chrysler Group's model shakeup looks set to continue.
Industry paper Automotive News Europe reports that Fiat and Chrysler boss Sergio Marchionne confirmed the details this week, describing a push to eliminate product overlap among the Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram brands.
The report adds that the Compass will be dropped in favour of a greater focus on its Patriot twin, while the retirement of the Grand Voyager will allow Dodge's near-identical Grand Caravan to cover the same space in the group's line-up.
The changes are expected to occur in late 2014, when the platform underpinning the Grand Voyager - known in the US as the Town & Country - is due to be replaced.
The Grand Voyager's replacement in the Chrysler brand's line-up is expected to be an up-market crossover, with some reports suggesting a model similar to Mercedes' R-Class.
Local sales of the Grand Voyager have slowed, with just 20 sales so far this year - compared to 95 for the same period in 2011.
As for the Compass, Marchionne told Automotive News that there are "a number of candidates" under consideration as a replacement.
The Compass was recently re-launched in Australia, picking up new styling, new features and improved interior materials. Jeep has so far sold 1052 Compass SUVs this year.
While the new Jeep and Chrysler models would be likely starters for Australia (if right-hand-drive is confired), the expected exit of Dodge from the local market puts a question mark over the people-moving minivan.
Marchionne also confirmed that an SRT performance version of the new Dart small sedan is in the works, with the only thing left to be determined being "how big an engine we stick in it".
Fans were given a glimpse of the hotted-up Dart in February, with the unveiling of the Dart 210 Tribute concept. It is likely that an SRT4 model will come out of that project.
