Jaguar has released a second teaser image for its new four-door performance king, the coming XFR-S, set to debut at this week's Los Angeles Auto Show.

Where the first image (above) offered a glimpse of the new flagship's front bumper and grille, this latest shot (below) shows off the bold carbon-fibre wing that will sit atop the big sedan's rear deck.

The new model's front bumper gets massive side intakes - larger even than the soon to be usurped XFR - along with carbon fibre inserts... and a minimum of flashy chrome.

Add in the big wing, and it is clear that Jaguar intends for the XFR-S to be every bit the hero that its XKR-S Coupe has become.

Technical details are still to be revealed, although it is likely the XFR-S will draw power from the same 405kW supercharged 5.0 litre V8 that drives the XKR-S - making for a handsome boost over the XFR's 375kW output.

The power boost will also make the XFR-S more of a direct rival for BMW's hero M5 sedan, which utilises a 4.4 litre turbocharged V8 to deliver 412kW and a 4.3 second sprint to 100km/h.

The XFR-S will prove heavier than the XKR-S, though, so I expect a 0-100km/h time of around 4.6 seconds - a hair above the XKR-S' 4.4 and a smidge sweeter than the XFR's 4.9 seconds.

The coming debut of the new powerhouse sedan will follow the recent unveiling of the F-Type roadster, which is expected to make its Australian debut in the coming months.
