The absence of a proper rival to the C-Class, 3 Series, A4, IS and Q50 has held the British marque back from achieving greater sales success globally.

Though luxury SUVs continue to grow in popularity, it's midsized luxury sedans that are the primary breadwinners for most premium automakers.
