Jaguar's plans for a C-segment hatchback have been on the backburner for years. But while nothing concrete has emerged, the company is known to have been toying with the idea since it unveiled the R-D6 concept back in 2003.
However, with Jaguar now in better financial health thanks to Indian parent company Tata, the debut of a hatchback remains a distinct possibility. To show what we could expect, artist Theophilus Chin has had a go at rendering it.
Called the “XD” by Chin, the rendering looks like a mashup of an XF, a Mazda3 and a Volkswagen Golf. It’s obviously not the real deal, but it does at least show that not all Jaguar design cues translate so neatly into a hatchback’s shape.
The name is probably wide of the mark too. Scion formerly sold a model called the xD in the USA and likely still holds the trademark. XC would be more likely, while the C-Type moniker will probably be reserved for a sports model.
