Jaguar will come out of the gates running at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show, judging by a new teaser illustration released today.
Dubbed C-X16, the concept will offer the first glimpse of the company's upcoming sports car and the next generation of Jaguar's big cats.
"Jaguar has set in place bold, ambitious plans for the future, This production concept demonstrates the depth of design and engineering ability we have within Jaguar to make these plans come to life – I look forward to sharing this latest, exciting step at the Frankfurt Motor Show," Jaguar Brand Director Adrian Hallmark said.
Whether the new model will complement the current XK Coupe or replace it is unclear.
The artwork shown here reveals a sleek coupe with all of the classic Jaguar proportions, taking cues from the XK and reaching right back to the classic E-Type. A long bonnet and sloping cabin terminates in a short rear deck and a sharp drop-off.
"Great Jaguar cars have always been beautiful, innovative and have looked firmly to the future. The finished C-X16 concept has the potential to do these things while retaining the ability to surprise, excite and invigorate," Jaguar design boss Ian Callum said.
Callum describes the C-X16 as a production concept, suggesting the car we see in September will offer a solid preview of what's to come, rather than a design study to be forgotten or watered down.
The C-X16 will be the second Jaguar concept to wear the 'C-X' name, following the unveiling last year of the C-X75 - a concept that has since been given a green light for production.
