Adding “-Type” to the end of the model name may narrow the field down to a new sports variant, to tackle the likes of Tesla’s Model S or even Porsche’s rumoured EV sedan.
While the F-TYPE currently flys the sports car flag for Jaguar, the now departed S- and X-Type models were certainly less about performance.
Jaguar may therefore have the EV-Type name being lined up for a luxury-sports model.
That notion may not sit so well with diehards. They will likely have views about whether the famous E-Type name of yesteryear is really appropriate for an EV luxury model.
There is, however, also the possibility that Jaguar has simply grabbed the rights to ‘EV-Type’ to ensure that no-one else can have it - with no immediate plans to use it on a new model.
