While the F-TYPE currently flys the sports car flag for Jaguar, the now departed S- and X-Type models were certainly less about performance.
Jaguar may therefore have the EV-Type name being lined up for a luxury-sports model.
That notion may not sit so well with diehards. They will likely have views about whether the famous E-Type name of yesteryear is really appropriate for an EV luxury model.
There is, however, also the possibility that Jaguar has simply grabbed the rights to ‘EV-Type’ to ensure that no-one else can have it - with no immediate plans to use it on a new model.
Either way, the guessing has begun on how Jaguar may choose to use the name EV-Type, and how soon we can expect to see it in showrooms.
An all-electric version of the F-TYPE is a possibility, and the Jaguar Land Rover group may already have some of the required hardware if rumours of a Tesla Model X-fighting EV SUV are true.
Another clue may rest in the C-X16 concept on which the F-TYPE is based, which was originally unveiled with joint petrol and electric power at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Jaguar filed paperwork in both Europe and the US, ensuring key bases for a potential future model are covered.
