This week, both have picked up new engines, and all transmissions have been upgraded to ZF's eight-speed automatic unit.
In both cars, Jaguar's 283kW/515Nm naturally-aspirated V8 engine has been swapped for a brand-new supercharged 3.0 litre V6.
Announced in April, the new super-six is available in two states of tune: 250kW/450Nm and 280kW/460Nm. It is the former that will feature here, replacing the more powerful but thirstier V8. (The latter will drive the F-Type.)
The fuel consumption improvements are nothing to be sneezed at: while the V8 listed 11.3 l/100km for the big XJ, Jaguar says the new engine will bring that number down to 9.4 l/100km.
Those savings are also thanks to a stop/start system, and the addition of ZF's eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing the existing six-speed unit in both the XJ and XF.
In the XF, Jaguar is also introducing a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine - a version of the mill that powers the Range Rover Evoque and the Euro-market Ford Mondeo - delivering 177kW and 340Nm.
The turbo-four will replace the naturally-aspirated 175kW/293Nm 3.0 litre V6 in the XF, again replacing the current six-speed auto transmission with the eight-speed ZF unit.
For 2013, the XJ also picks up a revised suspension tune, designed to improve comfort in the stately limousine.
Outside of driving changes, Jaguar has also made its Meridian sound system available across all XF and XJ models.
Updates to the Australian-delivered XF and XJ are expected to arrive toward the end of this year.
