Jaguar has combined the autonomous car with a removable steering wheel that acts in a similar way to a smartphone.

Dubbed 'Sayer', the wheel may preview the one and only part of a new car that you actually own as self-driving vehicles and car-sharing platforms continue to develop.

The British carmaker said Sayer is a fully-connected steering wheel with artificial intelligence that can call upon the closest driverless vehicle and have it delivered to your doorstep.

Once connected to the vehicle, Sayer can complete the driving duties or can advise the driver which parts of the journey they may want to take control for maximum enjoyment.

Similar to Amazon's Axela or the Google Home devices, Sayer can sit with you at home or work and you can simply talk to its voice-activated software to book meetings, restaurants and other engagements and it will then decide when the car needs to turn up.

Jaguar's Sayer steering wheel gets its name from one of the company's most prominent designers, Malcolm Sayer, who designed the E-Type and XJS.

Sayer will be fitted to a concept car called Future-Type, which Jaguar says will explore the future of mobility from 2040 onwards. It is due to be revealed at a Tech Fest in London later this week.
