Jaguar Land Rover has just cut the ribbon on a new Technical Centre for its Special Vehicles Operations (SVO) outfit, and the carmaker says customers can expect more models as a result.

The new £20 million (AU$ 34.5 million) facility enables the carmaker to open the tap, so to speak, both on production and development of new Special Vehicles version of Jaguar and Land Rover models.

Speaking with the UK’s Autocar, JLR’s John Edwards said the SVO unit could increase production by up to 50 percent, meaning the current total of around 3500 units per year could rise to 7000.

“The new Special Vehicle Operations Technical Centre is a major step forward in meeting the desires of our most discerning customers,” Edwards said.

“There are more than 200 skilled employees here, committed to outstanding quality and craftsmanship.”

Along with the increase in production, JLR is reportedly targeting one new model per year between now and 2020. Further, the 200 employees already on the books at the SVO centre will be joined by 250 more by the end of this year.
