Jaguar has made no secret of its new roadster plans, recently announcing the F-Type name and details of its V6 and V8 engines.

The British carmaker also unveiled a camouflage-wrapped version of the production F-Type in April - which TMR's spy photographers caught testing this week.

But that car wasn't alone.

There was a second car nearby in chequered camouflage - you can see it below - revealing one key difference at the rear.

Rather than the centred arrangement of the 'regular' F-Type, this second car features a quad-tip exhaust design, with two pipes poking out of each corner of the rear bumper.

What is it? Is it the V8-powered F-Type R flagship (that is expected to be not too far off), or merely one of two 'exhaust types' being tested for the final production roadster.

So far, Jaguar has confirmed two powertrains for the F-Type: an unspecified supercharged 5.0 litre V8, and a 280kW supercharged 3.0 litre V6.

Jaguar currently offers two versions of its super V8, one producing 375kW in the XKR coupe, XFR and XJ, the other cooking with 405kW in the top-shelf XKR-S.

We could also see the carmaker's new 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine appear in an entry-level version of the F-Type, but for now, only the larger six- and eight-cylinder mills have been confirmed.
