2014 JAGUAR F-TYPE COUPE AUSTRALIA
The new coupe's coming has been expected for some time, with the current F-TYPE roadster first appearing as the C-X16 coupe concept back in 2011.
In more recent months, spy photos and leaked patent images have all but assured fans that a new hardtop F-TYPE would soon appear.
Jaguar says the F-TYPE Coupe will be the "most dynamically capable and performance-focused production Jaguar ever", benefiting from a more rigid construction - and likely also from lessons learned with the droptop model.
“The excitement generated when we revealed the C-X16 concept was terrific; so to now be on the cusp of what I can assure you will be a drama-filled reveal event in Los Angeles for F-TYPE Coupé is a very significant moment," Jaguar design boss Ian Callum said. (See TMR's interview with Callum here.)
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive reaction to F-TYPE Convertible, but for me the purity of creating a sports Coupé is a uniquely satisfying process – and I know that both visually and dynamically, F-TYPE Coupé raises the bar yet again.”
As expected - and as with the current Roadster model - the Coupe is likely to come to market with few styling changes, maintaining much of the original C-X16 concept's look.
The F-Type Coupe's mechanical setup will mirror the Roadster, with powerful six- and eight-cylinder engine options and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Coupe is also rumoured to be the debut point for an entry-level 2.0 litre four-cylinder option, taking the 180kW engine currently featured in the Range Rover Evoque.
The F-TYPE Convertible range was unveiled at the Paris auto show in September 2012 and consists of three models, the 250kW V6-powered F-TYPE, the 280kW F-TYPE S, and the 365kW F-TYPE V8 S.
