Jaguar Declines To Buy Silverstone – British GP In Doubt

Devastating news doing the rounds of the Belgian Grand Prix Paddock at the weekend - the British Grand Prix again faces uncertain future.

This follows word that Jaguar’s $US43 million (A$56.9 million) deal with the British Racing Drivers’ Club for the historic Silverstone airfield circuit which dates back to WWII is dead in the water.

And a rival bid is on shaky ground after Silverstone Managing Director, Patrick Allen, was suspended on the ground he was too close to it.

Notwithstanding a contract with Formula One Management (FOM) to hold the British round of the championship until 2026 - and Silverstone is virtually in the back yard of many teams - speaking at the Spa circuit over the weekend, F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone told reporters the race is now in doubt again.

“I don’t know what is happening there,” Ecclestone said. “Somebody is going to have to step in and save it.”
