Jaguar has confirmed it will offer a V8 flagship version of its new F-Type roadster, while also announcing plans to expand its Castle Bromwich factory to handle production.
Following reports last week that hinted at its coming, Jaguar has confirmed that its long-awaited F-Type roadster will feature a 5.0 litre supercharged V8 engine.
Jaguar currently offers two versions of its super V8, one producing 375kW in the XKR coupe, XFR and XJ, the other cooking with 405kW in the top-shelf XKR-S.
The V8 engine will join the previously confirmed 3.0 litre supercharged V6. With that engine already confirmed to deliver 280kW, it is likely the more powerful of the 5.0 litre engines that we'll see in the F-Type range.
We could also see the carmaker's new 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine appear in an entry-level version of the F-Type, but for now, only the larger six- and eight-cylinder mills have been confirmed.
$315m Plant Expansion
Jaguar has reportedly confirmed that it will spend around AU$315 million to expand its Castle Bromwich plant in the UK, where the F-Type and other new cars will be built.
Earlier this year, Jaguar's SUV stablemate Land Rover took on an additional 1000 workers to increase production of the new Evoque small SUV.
The news represents a change in fortunes for Jaguar Land Rover, with a sharp drop in international sales three years ago bringing the company perilously close to cutting its workforce and closing the Bromwich plant.
Now riding high on massive investment from new parent Tata and booming demand in the Chinese market, JLR looks set to give its German rivals a proper run for their money.
