Jaguar's announcement last year that it would put its C-X75 super-concept into production surprised fans, but now it appears the car will be restricted to a life of track days, and little else.

Billed as a range-extended electric vehicle, the C-X75 is powered by an electric motor at each wheel - producing a combined 580kW - and a pair of gas turbines adding an extra 140kW of power.

In all, the gas turbines and electric motors produce a phenomenal 1600Nm of torque, and Jaguar promises a 0-100km/h time of 3.5 seconds. A top speed of 330km/h is claimed, the sleek concept getting there in 15.7 seconds.

As a carmaker that once held the record for the greatest top speed in a production car - 350km/h in the XJ220 - that ain't half bad.

According to US website Inside Line, Jaguar has decided to limit the C-X75's production numbers to special "experimental cars" for the track only.

The website reports that only 250 cars will be built, and buyers will need to fork over around one million dollars for their own example.

Jaguar brand director Adrian Hallmark confirmed that a 2013 debut is still on the cards, and if you're in the right place at the right time, you could spot development mules out testing later this year.

The brand won't be dialling back its development of the Bladon microturbine systems however, with a new Bladon Jets Engineering Centre recently opened in the UK to continue refining the technology.
