Jaguar F-TYPE to feature 280kW supercharged V6, XF and XJ to share 250kW super V6 and 177kW turbo four-cylinder.

Jaguar is about to add two new petrol engines to its 2013 model-year refresh, one a supercharged V6 and the other a turbocharged four.

Displacing 3.0 litres, the aluminium supercharged V6 utilises technology featured in the carmaker's 5.0 litre V8 engine, with quad cams, direct injection and a Roots-type twin vortex supercharger.

The V6 will be offered in two states of tune: 250kW and 450Nm of torque, and a 280kW/460Nm version.

The lower-powered version will feature in the XF and XJ cars, while the more powerful variant will be available in only one car, the upcoming F-Type roadster.

Depending on your preferences, the debut of the super six will please or disappoint: Jaguar has confirmed that the 250kW version will replace the naturally-aspirated 283kW 5.0 litre V8 in the XF and XJ.

In both cars, the existing six-speed automatic transmission will be replaced by ZF's eight-speed auto in models driven by the supercharged V6. A stop-start system will also feature.

The 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine will offer 177kW and 340Nm, and if those figures sound familiar, it's because this is the same engine that drives the top-spec Ford Mondeo in Europe, and the Range Rover Evoque.

In the Jaguar line-up, the turbo-four will replace the naturally-aspirated 175kW/293Nm 3.0 litre V6 in the XF, again replacing the current six-speed auto transmission with the eight-speed ZF unit.

 

Australia

The updated XF and XJ models are expected to make their Australian debut toward the end of 2012.
