UPDATE: Insider comments suggest this is in fact not the Gallardo replacement, although its identity remains a secret for now. Our source claims that only 50 of this particular car will be made.

It's likely another new special-edition Lambo, but further details are unavailable at this time.

Spy photos of a very Lamborghini-looking supercar wrapped in light camouflage have surfaced online, offering what could be a first look at the Gallardo's replacement.

Captured by Facebook users 'Shmee150' and 'Marchettino', the photos come just hours after Lamborghini was reported to have confirmed a Frankfurt debut for a new concept.

If these images are the real deal, it's clear the Gallardo's successor - rumoured to be called 'Cabrera' - will introde a more curvaceous design, while drawing inspiration from the larger Aventador hypercar.

It's also clear that the new model will be roughly the same size as its predecessor, with familiar proportions and a similar wheelbase.

Earlier reports suggest the new model's power source will be an upgraded version of the 5.2 litre V10 found in the current model, while the platform will again be shared with Audi's (next) R8 supercar.

Power should climb to around 450kW, and with a more lightweight construction than the current model, performance should increase well beyond what that relatively modest boost would otherwise suggest.

All-wheel-drive will remain the standard configuration, although, like the Gallardo, a rear-wheel-drive option is bound to appear at some point.

A seven-speed dual-clutch auto should replace the Gallardo's e-gear automated manual, and - thanks to very low demand among buyers - a manual version probably won't appear.
