A topless version of Toyota's 86 sports car has surfaced this week, offering what could be the first look at the upcoming 'FT-86 Open' concept.
Obtained by South Africa's Carmag, these photos reveal a convertible 86 that closely matches the single teaser sketch released by Toyota earlier this month.
The show-car also offers a glimpse at what could be a new production model, with Toyota describing the concept as a "preview of a possible future variant" in the 86 range.
Details remain thin on the ground, but if these images are 'the real deal', we can likely expect the Open to debut with a soft-top roof, keeping weight gain to a minimum.
If the Open concept makes its way to production, it will be Toyota's first global convertible since the last-generation MR2 left the market in 2006.
Toyota's 86 Coupe, along with its Subaru BRZ twin, was declared TMR's 2012 Best Buy.
