Nissan's luxury brand Infiniti has a new design chief, securing former head of BMW Design, Karim Habib.

Mr Habib, who has also worked for Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler AG, starts work at Infiniti’s Atsugi, Japan design centre on 1 July.

Reporting to Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan’s global design Vice President, Mr Habib will manage an impressive team for Infiniti which has design centres in La Jolla, California, London, England and Beijing, China.

“Design is one of the key pillars of our global brand development at Infiniti,” revealed Infiniti President Roland Krueger.

“Karim brings unique design skills that will accelerate Infiniti’s progress toward the goal of capturing and expanding our share in the global luxury market."

Visiting Infiniti’s North American design centre in La Jolla (near San Diego) will be a homecoming of sorts for Mr Habib as he earned his design degree from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.

Karim Habib's resume includes the previous generation BMW 7 Series, plus work on the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW X1 and CSL Hommage, as well as BMW concept cars such as the X2 Concept and Concept CS.
