Infiniti continues its naming transformation this month, with the still-new JX SUV becoming the QX60 - and bringing a new brand-new hybrid system along for the ride.
Bound for the New York Auto Show later this month, the QX60's appearance follows news last year that Infiniti will re-brand its entire range under a new 'Q' system.
The luxury marque will also debut a new QX60 Hybrid model in New York, powered by its new supercharged 2.5 four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a 15kW electric motor and a CVT transmission. (Announced in 2011.)
Infiniti promises a combined output of 186kW, returning fuel consumption figures of around 9.0 l/100km - a 24 percent improvement over the 197kW petrol V6 model.
Energy for the electric motor is drawn from a lithium-ion battery pack, and while regenerative braking is featured, the system offers no all-electric driving option.
Importantly, the QX60 gives away no luggage space to the system, thanks to the battery pack sitting beneath the third seating row.
