The NX is the Lexus brand’s first entrant in the hugely popular compact SUV market, and we’ll see it in Australia later this year. Infiniti, however, offers only the large FX here.
Speaking with industry paper Automotive News at the Beijing Auto Show, Nissan VP Andy Palmer confirmed that a new small SUV is under consideration for Infiniti.
"Is there room for a QX30? Most definitely,” Palmer told the paper.
He added that such a model would likely launch in China first. “I think if we were going to start anywhere it would be hard for us to start with that sized car in the United States or in Europe," he said.
Recent reports have also suggested that Nissan is looking at introducing an Infiniti version of the popular Juke crossover.
"Does Juke represent a great platform to start with? Of course it does," Palmer told Automotive News.
It’s more likely however that that the QX30 share its platform with the already high-riding Q30 ‘crossover hatch’ (pictured above) that is expected to launch in 2016.
Other Nissan executives have also confirmed plans for a QX30 model, although the company has yet to make an official announcement.
