Recent reports that Nissan’s luxury arm Infiniti will refocus on volume-selling models could see projects like the electric LE and Q50 Eau Rouge halo sedan shelved.
But, with an all-new Q60 Coupe on the way, there may yet be hope for a performance hero in the range. A Q60 Eau Rouge, perhaps.
But, while the Q50 Eau Rouge project has focused on developing an ultra-expensive, low-volume sedan version of Nissan’s GT-R, the Q60 team might instead look to a more accessible approach.
It is already known that the Q60 Coupe concept is specified with a twin-turbo 3.0 litre petrol-electric hybrid system, related to the 410kW unit that powered the earlier and larger Q80 four-door coupe.
Push a similar system to production in the coming Q60, bolt on the requisite performance parts and aero kit, and Infiniti might just have a BMW M4 rival in its pocket.
