Infiniti’s powered-up Q50 Eau Rouge will remain as a stand-alone concept for the foreseeable future, as the Japanese carmaker has reportedly shelved the project.

The Eau Rouge not only has one of the best names in the world for a special edition sedan but also the might of Nissan’s GT-R V6 powerplant to make it a genuine alternative to the Germany’s big three.

While fans had expressed much enthusiasm at the idea of an Infiniti-badged BMW M3, Audi RS 4 or Mercedes-AMG C 63 rival, it appears the carmaker doesn’t share that enthusiasm and is concerned over the cost of putting the Eau Rouge into production.

Potential buyers may have already placed deposits but Infiniti doesn’t believe it can sell enough Eau Rouges to justify the project.
