INFINITI Q50 EAU ROUGE GT-R
After a long-running teaser campaign, Infiniti has at last opened the chest of its special Q50 Eau Rouge concept to reveal a Phar Lap-sized heart.
As a result, Infiniti says it’s a good deal faster than both of those BMWs. While the M cars boast 0-100km/h times of around 4.1 seconds, the Eau Rouge promises a run below four seconds. (The company hasn’t specified a time, though.)
Where did that engine come from? Well, it’s mated to a seven-speed auto and an all-wheel-drive system. You’ll only need one guess: Nissan’s GT-R super coupe.
Still, Infiniti isn’t saying where it’s pulled the big twin-turbo V6 from, confirming only that its desire for a true flagship moved the company to “engineer this powerful heart into our blood-red beast”.
“A car with such pronounced styling treatments demands the very best in terms of high-performance powertrains, which is why we installed this V6 twin-turbocharged, 7-speed combination as an example of what a potential powertrain for the Q50 Eau Rouge may look and sound like,” Infiniti boss Johan de Nysschen said in Geneva today.
The company has yet to confirm the Eau Rouge for production, but it would be a mighty good thing for the company’s prestige market goals if the hot sedan did hit showrooms.
For now, Infiniti has promised only that it plans to introduce performance versions of the Q50 in the future.
Now that we’ve seen the Eau Rouge, and what it’s capable of… could we stand for anything less?
