Infiniti's new Q30 concept has been revealed further today, ahead of a Frankfurt Motor Show debut set to occur this week.

Teased in a stylised sketch last month, the tall Q30 concept enters as a preview of Infiniti's entry into the growing and competitive small-car market.

The Q30 steps away from the earlier LE and Etherea concepts, leaning more towards the look of the larger Q50 sedan that appeared earlier this year.

Infiniti's latest styling elements can all be found in the Q30, from the broad grille and angular headlights to the deep and wavy character lines and quirky kicked-in C-pillar.

The carmaker says its Q30 concept "challenges categorisation", designed to combine the styling and practicality of a coupe, a hatch and a crossover.

"Infiniti is confident this merging of the dynamic design and sportiness of a coupe, the roominess of a hatch and the higher stance of a crossover will resonate with these customers," today's release reads.

While the car bound for Frankfurt is officially a concept, it's no secret that Infiniti is planning to launch into one of the popular segments of the prestige market: small hatches.

The Q30 is destined to enter below the G-replacing Q50 as Infiniti's promised compact car, rivalling BMW's 1 Series, the new A-Class, Audi's A3 and the Lexus CT.

"This Infiniti Q30 Concept is a prelude to the product portfolio expansion which underpins our aggressive global growth strategy," Infiniti boss Johan de Nysschen said.

"In our quest to appeal to the modern, young-minded premium customer, the Infiniti Q30 Concept has a distinctive style and reaches new levels of product quality."

Little else is known about the new model, although Infiniti says it will look to "innovative materials" to snag a "new generation" of premium buyers.

Interestingly, the Q30 will also be the first Infiniti model to benefit from the influence of the company's new 'Director of Performance', F1 champion Sebastian Vettel.

That of course means that along with the usual range of 'regular commuter' models, we can likely expect a top-shelf sports hero to sit atop the Q30 range.

Watch for more details on the Q30 to come at this week.
