INFINITI Q30 SMALL CAR

Infiniti has revealed a first look at its upcoming Q30 hatch concept, bound for an unveiling at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show.

Teased in a single stylised sketch released today, the Q30 steers away from the earlier LE and Etherea concepts to further evolve Infiniti's styling language.

The carmaker's key design cues are all there of course, from the broad grille and angular headlights to the deep and wavy character lines and quirky kicked-in C-pillar.

While the car bound for Frankfurt is officially a concept, it's no secret that Infiniti is planning to launch into one of the popular segments of the prestige market: small hatches.

The Q30 is destined to enter below the G-replacing Q50 sedan as Infiniti's promised compact car, rivalling BMW's 1 Series, the new A-Class, Audi's A3 and the Lexus CT.

"This Infiniti Q30 Concept is a prelude to the product portfolio expansion which underpins our aggressive global growth strategy," Infiniti boss Johan de Nysschen said.

"In our quest to appeal to the modern, young-minded premium customer, the Infiniti Q30 Concept has a distinctive style and reaches new levels of product quality."

Little else is known about the new model, although Infiniti says it will look to "innovative materials" to snag a "new generation" of premium buyers.

Interestingly, the Q30 will also be the first Infiniti model to benefit from the influence of the company's new 'Director of Performance', F1 champion Sebastian Vettel.

That of course means that along with the usual range of 'regular commuter' models, we can likely expect a top-shelf sports hero to sit atop the Q30 range.

Watch for more details on the Q30 to come at Frankfurt next month.
