Infiniti's 300km/h FX50 Performance Concept has been confirmed for a limited production run this week, with the special car to be dubbed the FX Sebastian Vettel Version.

As the name suggests, Infiniti called in Formula 1 champion Sebastian Vettel to direct the development of the concept, calling for a number of minor design changes, some necessary aerodynamic tweaks and a few mechanical adjustments.

Up front, the concept gets the FX's updated-for-2012 grille, a new front bumper design with an F1-inspired carbon-fibre bottom spoiler and integrated LED daytime running lights.

At the rear is a carbon-fibre rear spoiler, and the ultra-lightweight material also features in the side skirts and rear bumper.

Combined, the new front and rear spoilers give the FX50 Performance Concept a 30 percent improvement to its coefficienct of lift, and a five percent lower coefficient of drag.

On the power front, the FX50's regular 5.0 litre V8 has been massaged to produce 313kW - up from 290kW. The increased output comes courtesy of a tweaked ECU and a custom exhaust system.

With a longer final driver ratio and the electronic speed limiter removed, Infiniti says the FX50 PC will hit 300km/h, after crossing the 100km/h mark in 5.6 seconds.

As for the production model, don't expect to see it in Australia. Although the luxury brand is making its Australian debut this year, the FX SVV will be limited to just 200 units, and all of them are headed for Europe and the Middle East.

Oh well...
