Two months ago, Infiniti announced that it will launch a sporty new electric sedan in time for the 2015 model year, offering a single blurry teaser image to drum up anticipation.

This week, Nissan's luxury arm has rolled out another pair of images for a possible second model, described as a range-extending electric sports car (think Holden Volt, but more sporting).

While a production debut is a few years away, the new model will be previewed in concept form at March's Geneva Motor Show, offering the brand's vision for "a totally new kind of inspired premium performance car."

The car will likely accompany the sedan announced at Frankfurt in September, and as these two teaser images show, the car's styling will be an evolution of the popular Essence concept.

For now, American outfit Tesla leads the game in the premium all-electric sports car market, and its upcoming Model S and Model X models will see that expand to regular passenger vehicles.

Come 2015, we could be seeing a whole new ball game.
