The record for the ‘flying mile’ at Pendine Sands in Wales is no more, after standing for more than 88 years.

Sir Malcolm Campbell’s famous Blue Bird held the record at 174.8 MPH (281.3km/h), but the new mark has been set at 180.4 MPH (290.3km/h).

The new record holder is British film and television actor Idris Elba, who set the benchmark during filming for a new television series called “Idris Elba: No Limits”.

Elba’s weapon of choice was the Bentley Continental GT Speed - appropriately named because of its 206 MPH (331km/h) top speed.
