Hyundai has taken the wraps off its FE Fuel Cell Concept at the Geneva Motor Show, offering a glimpse at the Korean automaker’s next-generation fuel cell production vehicle.

Following on from Hyundai’s first commercially-available fuel cell vehicle, the ix35 Fuel Cell, the FE Fuel Cell Concept retains SUV styling cues, albeit in a more modern and flowing form.

The name, FE, stands for Future Eco symbolising Hyundai’s advances in hydrogen fuel cell technology including technology that weighs 20% less than the previous version while achieving 10% greater efficiency. The power density of the fuel cell stack is increased by 30%, resulting in a cruising range in excess of 800km on a single fill.

Styling is inspired by water, the FE Fuel Cell’s only emission, with a minimalist form both inside and out. Integrated styling touches, like the vented rear pillars also add to the FE Fuel Cell’s aerodynamic efficiency.
