Seems the Americans can’t get enough of Hyundai’s new Tucson, with another undergoing a radical transformation for the upcoming SEMA show.

Alongside the 500kW Bisimoto Tucson announced last month, the latest Tucson project is a partnership between Hyundai and Rockstar Performance Garage (RPG) which focuses on maximum off-road ability.

Fans of SUVs who wish some of the ‘soft-roaders’ were a little more hard-core will rejoice when they learn the RCG Tucson sits a full 150mm higher than the regular model.

The suspension has been completely overhauled to handle off-road duties, including adjustable shocks, and the Tucson now wears massive 32-inch Mickey Thompson tyres.

There’s more muscle under the bonnet as well, with a new high-flow exhaust, performance air intake, a new intercooler and more boosting the output of Hyundai’s 1.6 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine (to an undisclosed horsepower figure).

Drive reaches the road through all four wheels via a six-speed DCT automatic.
