2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Revealed Through Twitter, Debuts “Storm Edge” Design

Hyundai has offered a revealing first look at its all-new 2013 Santa Fe SUV, bringing the big softroader's styling in-line with the brand's latest models.

The official images, revealed on Hyundai's Twitter profile this week, follow the publishing of two show-all spy photos back in January.

Billed as teaser renderings, the new images reveal an ix35-inspired profile with a fast rising belt line and a sharp character line over the rear guard.

Up front, the new Santa Fe gets a brutish squared-off face and a new take on Hyundai's familiar hexagonal grille design, sharing its inspiration with the recent Hexa Space concept.

We'll see more of that new grille and headlight design in the future: Hyundai describes it as a new evolution of its Fluidic Sculpture styling language, dubbed "Storm Edge".

The Santa Fe name could also be replaced in Australia with an ix45 badge, although the survival of the Accent and Elantra names leaves the door open for the big wagon's existing name to continue.

Technical details for the new model remain a secret for now, although we can likely expect the new Santa Fe to continue with the 145kW 2.2 litre R-Series diesel that features in the current model.

We could also see the Genesis Coupe's 205kW/372Nm 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. If so, this would sit as rival for Ford's overseas EcoBoost-powered Explorer.

The new Santa Fe will make its global debut at next month's New York Auto Show, with an Australian debut likely to follow later this year or in early 2013.
