Hyundai's updated ix35 Series II SUV has landed in Australia, bringing a handful of tweaks while keeping its $26,990 starting price.

The Active is fitted with a direct injection four-cylinder petrol engine with the same 2.0 litre capacity and 122kW of the outgoing model, but torque has been boosted to 205Nm.

Fuel consumption for the 2.0 litre engine has also improved, with a figure of 8.2 l/100km for the six-speed manual and 8.4 l/100km for the six-speed auto.

The 2.0 litre engine is only available in front-wheel-drive models, including the exclusively FWD Active and the mid-spec Elite variants.

The Active is the only variant available with manual transmission, which is now a six-speed unit instead of the five-speed previously offered.

A 2.4 litre direct injection four-cylinder engine with 136kW and 240Nm is standard in the all-wheel-drive Elite and up-spec Highlander models.

The 2.4 litre engine is only available with the six-speed automatic transmission, with fuel consumption listed at 9.8 l/100km.

A 2.0 litre turbo-diesel is optional in the AWD Elite and Highlander, producing 135kW and 392Nm with fuel consumption listed at 7.2 l/100km.

Exterior enhancements for the ix35 Series ll include two all-new 17- and 18-inch alloy wheel designs, and Hyundai’s local development team has tuned the suspension and steering for Australian conditions.

New LED positioning lights are on the lower portion of the headlights on Active models, and on the upper portion on Elite and Highlander variants.

Inside, there's redesigned fabric trim for the Active model, while the Elite and Highlander models pick up new soft-touch materials for the front and rear upper door trims.

There's reshaped front cupholders (complete with mood lighting), and the redesigned 60/40 split-folding rear seats now have a two-stage reclining function.

The ix35 Series II also gets Bluetooth telephone and audio streaming, six-speaker audio, steering-mounted audio controls, USB/iPod compatibility, auxiliary audio input jack and rear roof-mounted aerial.

The ix35 Series II Special Edition (SE) retains its place in the range, offering either 2.0 litre petrol or diesel engines and slotting into the line-up just below the FWD Elite, with a starting price of $30,990 plus on-roads,

The ix35 Series II is on sale now and comes with a five-year unlimited kilometre warranty.
