Hyundai Intrado SUV To Preview New Styling And Technology

Hyundai will reveal a new SUV concept at next year's Geneva Motor Show, previewing new construction technologies and an evolved new look. 

The Intrado - or HED-9 if you prefer codenames - will debut the next generation in Hyundai's 'Fluidic Sculpture' styling language.

The new look is dubbed simply Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 - and if this first teaser image is anything to go by, the 'Storm Edge' philosophy that debuted with the new Santa Fe SUV appears to have been dropped.

For now, Hyundai has offered a glimpse of the Intrado's rear-end only, where we see Aston Martin-like tail lamps and tall integrated LED indicator strips.

Broadly pumped guards and a long sloping roofline hints at a BMW X6-inspired 'sports activity coupe' profile, although it remains to be seen how much emphasis these elements will carry through to Geneva. 

"Hyundai Intrado envisages a motoring future that encapsulates the efficiency and freedom associated with flying," Hyundai (and Kia) design boss Peter Schreyer said.

"I believe in the power of mobility to deliver emotional as well as physical connections and this car helps us find again the joy of discovery. Intrado shows that future cars can be both relevant and exciting."

On the technology front, Hyundai promises a new super-lightweight architecture made from "a mixture of advanced materials", joined using "a revolutionary technique that has the potential to change the way cars are constructed in the future". 

The Korean carmaker isn't going into detail at this early stage, declaring only that the Intrado will demonstrate its "continuing commitment to innovation". 

The new concept will also debut a new next-generation hydrogen fuel-cell drivetrain, expanding on the programme kicked off with the i-Blue concept in 2007, culminating in the hydrogen-powered ix35 FCEV.
