Hyundai has released a single teaser image for its Geneva-bound i-oniq concept, revealing a sleek profile that straddles the line between coupe and shooting brake.

Previewing the next step in the evolution of Hyundai's "Fluidic Sculpture" design language, the i-oniq will likely give us an idea of what to expect from the carmaker's future models - and possibly of a fast new model.

Little information has been released at this stage, and except for the familiar i45-inspired character line along the top of the doors (or where the doors would be), the teaser image itself reveals little.

Hyundai says the concept was designed at its European studio in Germany, where many of the brand's latest models were conceived, including the strong-selling i45 sedan and the new i40 Tourer wagon.

"[The i-oniq features] two strong arched curves define the silhouette of i-oniq, creating a playful contrast between the sharp character lines and soft but muscular features," Hyundai's European design boss - and former BMW designer - Thomas Burkle said.

While the i-oniq is not due to be unveiled until March's Geneva Motor Show, Hyundai says it will reveal more details and images in the coming weeks.
