Hyundai Developing Radically-Styled Compact SUV As Creta Alternative: Report

Hyundai’s new Creta has only recently been uncovered, but the Korean carmaker is reportedly considering another model for the small SUV class.

Speaking with Edmonds, Hyundai USA CEO Dave Zuchowski said a compact SUV should appeal to younger buyers, and that Hyundai USA might hold out for the carmaker to create such a model.

"Creta is a vehicle that is more traditionally styled and it looks like a smaller version of the (Hyundai) Santa Fe," Zuchowski said.

"In our opinion, as we go into this segment, it is a great segment for Millennials, for Gen Y. It is a good youth vehicle and we think in order to tap that market, the thing should be styled less conservatively and more aggressively."

"We have decided to wait a little bit longer to get the right vehicle."

Mr Zuchowski said a new small SUV could potentially be styled on Hyundai’s Veloster sports car (such as the Intrado concept, top of page), giving it a unique look to serve as a rival to the slightly more ‘out there’ SUVs - such as the Nissan Juke, Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X.

However it looks, the styling will reportedly split the audience down the middle.
