Hyundai is celebrating 30 years in Australia, releasing a pair of special edition SUVs to commemorate the occasion.

The current Hyundai range is a world apart from the cheap and cheerful Excel that launched the brand into Australia. Then priced from $9,990, the Excel was among the cheapest of small cars, but acquired a dubious reputation.

But since that 1986 introduction, the Hyundai brand has become a storming success with highly respected durable products, quality interiors and robust drivetrains. This year, 2016, it sits at a solid third place on Australia's new car sales charts.
