2015 HONDA CIVIC TYPE R TEASED
Honda is appealing to our animal instincts with a wild - and weird - new teaser clip for its coming Civic Type R hot hatch.
The new ‘R-Rated’ ad offers little in the way of new details of the coming car, although Honda has been far from secretive in recent months.
The company has already revealed that a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine will drive the new ‘CTR’, promising more than 205kW of power.
Revealing spy photos and concept images have also offered a telling look at how the new Type R will look when it launches in the next year.
At this stage, the real question still to be answered is one of performance.
Honda has openly declared war on the Type R’s hot-hatch rivals, with company boss Takanobu Ito confirming plans to steal the record for fastest front-wheel-drive production car to lap the Nurburgring.
Of course, when that already bold declaration was made, the record stood at 8 minutes and 8 seconds, held by Renault’s Megane RS 265.
However, the goal posts have since shifted more than a little. Quite a bit, in fact…
To say that Honda is now well ‘up against it’ would be an understatement.
Still, both the record-breaking Seat Leon Cupra and Megane RS models were decked out with special limited-edition performance parts.
If Honda’s new Type R can near those record times in its stock form, it will hold a lot of promise for a later record - perhaps with a special Civic Type R Trophy pack of its own.
