Forget the rumours of a Tokyo debut next month, Honda looks to have a more important market in mind for its new NSX concept: the US.

According to Britain's Autocar, Honda will skip Tokyo (where Toyota's 86 is likely to steal the show), revealing an Acura-badged concept version of the new NSX at January's Detroit Auto Show

The report follows photos of Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr driving a new Acura roadster concept on the set of the upcoming Avengers film. It is expected that a hardtop version of this car will be shown at Detroit.

Honda itself has yet to confirm plans for a new halo model, although CEO Takanobu Ito has made no bones about his hopes for a new sportscar project.

“I spent part of my early career at Honda developing the NSX, and specifically the aluminium body,” Ito told Autocar in a recent interview.

“I really enjoyed that experience, and learned much, so it is my wish that Honda engineers have the experience of developing a sportscar like the NSX in future. Within Honda, our engineers are already looking at developing such a car.”
