It won't be the first time Honda has teased fans with a future-previewing showcar, but unlike 2003's HSC concept and the Acura-badged Advanced Sports Car concept, this one is expected to go all the way.
Adding credence to the talk of a Tokyo debut are recent spy photos of an Acura concept on the set of the upcoming Avengers superhero film (above), driven by Robert Downey Junior's billionaire alter ego, Tony Stark.
It is likely that this concept, or a more NSX-appropriate hardtop version, will headline Honda's Tokyo stand in December - along with the Acura stand at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
And, according to comments from CEO Takanobu Ito, the brand's fans will soon have reason to fly the flag again.
“I spent part of my early career at Honda developing the NSX, and specifically the aluminium body,” Ito told Britain's Autocar magazine in a recent interview.
“I really enjoyed that experience, and learned much, so it is my wish that Honda engineers have the experience of developing a sportscar like the NSX in future. Within Honda, our engineers are already looking at developing such a car.”
Whether that car is the concept we'll reportedly see at Tokyo remains to be seen, but we'll know for sure in just a few months.
