Honda's "Small Sports EV concept" has reared its head in Tokyo this week, in the form of the EV-Ster, offering a potential new look at the company's future roadster line-up.

It's no S2000, but with its sharp lines and sports-focused styling, the EV-Ster joins the CR-Z (and the new NSX, if recent reports are to believed) in proving that Honda is not quite ready to rub lifestyle from its line-up.

Honda says the EV-Ster concept is driven by an electric motor, sending power sent to the rear wheels - although figures and transmission details have not been revealed.

Energy is provided by a 10kWh lithium ion battery, and Honda promises a properly sports-car 0-100km/h time of just five seconds.

The EV-Ster's driving range is listed at 160 kilometres, and a full charge can be achieved in less than three hours with a dedicated 200V charging system. A regular home power outlet pushes charge times out to around six hours.

Lightweight carbon-fibre features through the concept (although weight has not been revealed), and the cabin reveals an airplane-like twin-lever steering arrangement "adopted for the thorough pursuit of the joy of driving." We'll let you make sense of that one on your own.
