The 2017 Honda Civic Type R has claimed the title of fastest front wheel drive car around the punishing Nurburgring circuit in Germany.

Honda has released footage of the new Civic Type R recording a 7m43.80s lap time a feat that shaves 6.83 seconds off the previous Europe-only model.

The new record wrests the title from last year’s Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S and is even quicker than independently-timed efforts from the first-generation Audi R8 V10 and Pagani Zonda.
